From my note on Facebook - for those who haven't seen it or aren't on Facebook

Just to let those whom I said I'd let know know - I am going ahead with plans to head to Dunedin, New Zealand in February to begin a PhD in computational mathematics at the University of Otago. Funding did indeed come through - big thank you to the Scholarship Committee over there!

To help keep in touch from the far side of the world, as well as for future reference and to satisfy the curiosity of anybody else thinking about following the same course, I'm intending to post notes and pics on the internet - feel free to read and comment.

Many thanks for all the encouragement and enthusiasm I've received from friends and family - I hope I'll see many of you before I leave, but to those I don't, all the best for the year ahead and I look forward to catching up when I'm back!
